If you’re looking for a wine country weekend getaway in Northern California skip the crowds in Napa and head further north to beautiful Sonoma County. North Sonoma County boasts some of the finest wine areas in the state including Dry Creek, Alexander Valley, Chalk Hill and Russian River Valley. The luxurious Hotel Healdsburgconsistently on the Conde Nast Traveler Gold List and Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards, is the perfect place to call home during your wine country escape.

Hotel Healdsburg has much to offer with gorgeous rooms, a beautiful pool, relaxing spa, country gardens and Charlie Palmer’s Dry Creek Kitchen restaurant. Perfectly located on the historic Healdsburg town plaza you can leisurely stroll to a number of boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries from this luxury hotel. If you feel like being a bit more active borrow one of the bikes the hotel has available to its guests for a little cruise to explore the area. Then of course there are the outstanding wineries in the area to enjoy a day of tasting some of the best wines in California.

The rooms and suites in the hotel are anything but ordinary. Beautifully decorated with Tibetan carpets, teak platform beds, Italian glass Bizazza tile in the bathrooms and French doors opening up to your own, private balcony. The decor is not the standard luxury hotel decor. There is a feeling of warmth and comfort to the rooms created by the soft colors, hardwood floors and special touches like organic spa amenities. You truly feel like you’re surrounded by wine country luxury. It doesn’t stop with the rooms either. The handsome architecture and wine country decor continues throughout the property. The Fireside Lounge and bar area is elegant yet cozy with comfortable couches, tables and a fireplace to keep you warm in the winter months. Guests can enjoy complimentary wine tastings Thursday and Fridays or relax to live jazz Friday and Saturday evenings in the lounge.

We were lucky enough to enjoy some warm days during our stay, which meant lounging by the sparkling pool followed by an indulgent spa treatment was on the agenda for me. The Spa at Hotel Healdsburg uses locally sourced products and has a unique menu of treatments including a Wine and Honey Wrap. Yes, you guessed it that was my pick! It was heaven! I admit I was a tad distracted by how delicious the honey smelled that I had to resist the urge to lick myself. Other than that it was a divine experience.

After working up an appetite busy by the pool and relaxing at the spa you can spoil yourself with a delicious meal at Charlie Palmer’s Dry Creek Kitchen. Taking advantage of the fact this wonderful restaurant is in the heart of Sonoma County ingredients are sourced directly from the farmers in the area. Not to mention over 600 wines from the Sonoma wine region to please your palette. I’ll be sharing all the delectable details of my dining experience in an upcoming review next week!

Hotel Healdsburg is a great choice whether you’re looking for a romantic weekend or celebration with friends. So, the next time you have the itch to take off on a wine country getaway remember North Sonoma County is the perfect destination and Hotel Healdsburg is the perfect place to stay.

Stay tuned for my review next week of Charlie Palmer’s Dry Creek Kitchen.
