Travel time: Bali
Ozdane and I are off to Bali this afternoon for a long weekend! I can’t wait! We are very lucky it is only 2 hours from Singapore which makes it a perfect weekend getaway destination.
I love Bali. I loved it from the first time I went there with Ozdane in 2009. It is a very special place to us. In the beginning of our relationship Ozdane had just moved to Singapore and I was living in Sydney. The first 6 weeks of our relationship was texts and phone calls. Our first “date” was when we met in Bali in September 2009. I guess you could say it was a series of dates all in one long weekend. Ever since that trip it has become our special place and it always will be to us.
Why do I love it so much? I find it very relaxing, chilled out and the Balinese people are lovely people. There is no feeling of rushing around, city life or craziness. Things go at a slower pace so you naturally find yourself very relaxed. I love the fact you can stay at a private villa with your own pool and have as much privacy as you want or opt for one of the resorts along the beach with all the facilities you could imagine. We have stayed at some really unique villas and resorts. There are some amazing restaurants, incredible seafood and some great spots to enjoy a cocktail watching the sunset. You can get $8 massages while lying on the beach or even a little mani/pedi. You can surf, swim, body board, and ride horses along the beach, just about anything.
Like all wonderful vacation destinations parts of Bali have become more touristy over the years. You can escape that though by going just going a bit further away from a main tourist spot. You can go for day trips or choose to stay somewhere off the beaten path where you still can find villas and hotels. We have stayed in Seminyak which is a more popular spot and have also ventured down to Dreamland, Padang Padang and Uluwatu. We also have stayed in Ubud, a few hours north of Seminyak, that is full of culture and has that artsy, funky feel to it.
Ozdane and I always look forward to our trips to Bali. Yes there are the things I love about it I mentioned above but more than anything I love it because it is our special place. It’s our beloved Bali!
